Welcome to the Awakenings Upclose 2027 in Spaarnwoude
Awakenings Upclose 2027 takes place on Saturday 15 May and Sunday 16 May 2027 at Houtrak in Spaarnwoude Park, between Amsterdam and Haarlem. The navigation address is Wethouder van Essenweg, Halfweg, the Netherlands. This is the more intimate outdoor offshoot of Amsterdam’s Awakenings organisation – the same techno standard as the big July festival in Hilvarenbeek, scaled for the dance floor rather than the spectacle. Saturday runs 12:00–23:00, Sunday 13:00–23:00. Admission is 18+ with a valid government-issued ID.
Highlights & Attractions at Awakenings Upclose in Spaarnwoude
- A compact, dance-floor-first techno weekend in the woods and open parkland of Houtrak – closer to the booth than Awakenings’ flagship festival.
- Multiple areas (six stages in previous editions, including woodland Area.97 and the circular Area.24 with 360-degree sound) instead of one oversized main stage.
- Pure techno with B2Bs, live sets and rare collabs, from global pioneers to strong Dutch artists.
- Daytime-into-evening festival with no camping: doors close at 23:00, with optional Amsterdam afterhours in past years.
- Official shuttle buses from Amsterdam Sloterdijk (about a five-minute walk from the drop-off), plus bike, train and pre-booked parking.
- Strict 18+ policy, no re-entry, no admission in the last two hours, and a zero-tolerance drugs rule that includes cannabis.
- Lockers for bags and jackets, advance parking and shuttle tickets, first aid, and marked smoking areas on site.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
The 2027 lineup has not been announced. Upclose is built for uncompromising, floor-led techno: previous editions featured Ben Klock, Jeff Mills, Ellen Allien, Four Tet, Ben UFO, Kobosil, Joris Voorn, Nina Kraviz, Dasha Rush, Ignez, Rødhåd, Freddy K and Collabs 3000 (Chris Liebing & Speedy J). Expect long back-to-backs, live performances and a bill that can dip into house or experimental corners without leaving the dance floor.
Saturday 15 May 2027: 12:00–23:00. Sunday 16 May 2027: 13:00–23:00. Day-by-day timetables usually appear closer to the event on awakenings.com and in the Awakenings app. There is no campsite. Re-entry is not allowed, and last admission is two hours before close (21:00 both days).

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Spaarnwoude
- Getting there: Easiest by bike or the official shuttle from Amsterdam Sloterdijk station; it is about a five-minute walk from the drop-off. The nearest local rail stop is Halfweg-Zwanenburg. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) is a short train ride from Sloterdijk. If you drive, buy a parking ticket in the shop first and navigate to Wethouder van Essenweg, then follow the yellow event signs.
- Weather and clothing: Mid-May in Spaarnwoude is often 12–20 °C and changeable, with a real chance of showers. Pack layers, closed shoes and a packable rain jacket. Shirts must stay on. Bags and jackets go in lockers (cheaper online than on site).
- Where to stay: No festival camping. Book Amsterdam, Haarlem or Halfweg and plan your return before 23:00 (shuttles run until after close). May weekends in the Randstad still sell out – reserve early.
- On site: No outside food or drink, no professional photo/film gear, no selfie sticks, no large flags. Food and drinks go through the festival system. Smoking and vaping only in marked zones. Earplugs are available at first aid.
- Need to know: 18+ with photo ID, no re-entry, no entry after 21:00. Lineup, shuttle times and locker sales will be published on awakenings.com – treat that site and the official shop as the only binding source.
