From November 27 to 29, 2026, the mighty Burg Forchtenstein in Burgenland opens its gates for its traditional Christmas market. The castle sits in the Rosalia holiday region on the border between Burgenland and Lower Austria, southeast of Wiener Neustadt, and has long been considered one of Austria's most beautiful and atmospheric advent markets.

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in Forchtenstein
The market takes place on the first advent weekend. On Friday it is open from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on both weekend days from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Alongside the craft market in the historic cellar vaults and courtyard, visitors can join winter castle tours and enjoy a program for younger guests. Tickets and Admission for the 2026 Christmas Market
For the 2025 edition, admission was 8.00 euros for adults and 5.50 euros at the reduced rate, which applied to seniors, groups, students and teenagers aged 16 to 18. Children and teenagers up to 16 and holders of a valid winter ticket to the castle entered free, as did holders of the Burgenland Card or Lower Austria Card as part of their respective benefits. Official prices for 2026 had not yet been confirmed at the time of research but are expected to remain in a similar range.

About 20 kilometers from Forchtenstein, the Renaissance era Lackenbach Palace opens for the second advent weekend, from December 4 to 6, 2026, offering a quieter and more refined alternative. More than 50 vendors present handcrafted work and regional natural products inside the historic palace complex. Admission is 9.00 euros for adults and 7.00 euros at the reduced rate, with free entry for holders of a valid museum ticket.
Christmas Tree Village in Bad Sauerbrunn
The spa town of Bad Sauerbrunn, also within the Rosalia region, turns its historic spa park into a Christmas tree village throughout the entire advent season, with decorated trees displayed across the town. Alongside a small Christmas market, families can enjoy a full program including pony rides, puppet theater and an advent calendar on the town hall. The market runs on every advent weekend, Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon.
