Welcome to Altstadtfest Buxtehude 2026
From Friday to Sunday, 12 to 14 June 2026, the historic old town of the small Hanseatic town of Buxtehude turns into a lively festival mile once again. Buxtehude is known for the medieval canals (Fleete) running through its old town; the festival unfolds right along these waterways, on Breite Straße and around the town hall square. The event is organized by Altstadtverein Buxtehude e.V. and relies heavily on volunteer effort from across the town.

Program
The Buxtehude Old Town Festival starts Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday evening. Several stages, including the Ewer stage, host cover bands, brass bands and DJs, while the town hall square and the Geesttor add further musical programming. On Friday and Saturday, the disco area at the Geesttor turns into an open air party from 8:00 PM, staying open until 1:00 AM. Sunday is dedicated to families: between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, an open stage lets spontaneous talents perform, and from 8:00 AM the popular flea market takes place around the Fleth canal.
Tickets
Altstadtfest Buxtehude is free to attend; no ticket is required to enter the old town. Visitors who want to support the festival can buy an Altstadtfest supporter cup, with proceeds going directly toward financing the event.
Visitor Tips
- Traveling by bus or train is recommended, since the old town is closed to cars and parking is limited.
- Arrive early Sunday morning to browse the flea market before the biggest crowds.
- Wear sturdy shoes for walking along the canals, as some paths are uneven.
- An awareness team is present throughout the festival for anyone who needs support.
- Bring cash, as many smaller stalls do not accept card payments.
