Welcome to the Altwiener Christkindlmarkt Freyung 2026 in Vienna
The Altwiener Christkindlmarkt on Freyung square takes place from 14 November to 23 December 2026 daily from 10:00 to 21:00. As one of Vienna’s oldest and most traditional Christmas markets (documented since 1772), it offers a calm, authentic Advent atmosphere with high-quality handicrafts and atmospheric music in the heart of the Inner City, framed by the Schottenstift abbey.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The market focuses on tradition and quality rather than mass events. Every day you can enjoy a varied selection of handmade products. From late afternoon Advent music by different ensembles fills the square. On weekends and selected dates live craft demonstrations take place along with a charming children’s programme featuring puppet theatre. The market closes on 23 December and is especially atmospheric under the evening lights during Advent weekends.
