Welcome to the Augsburg Christmas Markets 2026 in Augsburg
The Augsburg Christmas Markets 2026 rank among Germany’s oldest and most beautiful festive markets and take place from 23 November to 24 December 2026. With more than 500 years of tradition, the main Christkindlesmarkt spreads across Rathausplatz, Martin-Luther-Platz and the historic pedestrian zones. The highlight is the famous Angel Performance on the façade of the Renaissance Town Hall.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The main market stretches from Rathausplatz via Martin-Luther-Platz, Philippine-Welser-Straße and Maximilianstraße to St. Moritz Church. The Angel Performance takes place at weekends at 6 p.m.; on 23 December the angels perform a special finale on the portal in front of the Town Hall. Musical performances at the Christmas tree, the Augsburg Fairy-Tale Trail and a varied supporting programme accompany the entire Advent season. Opening day on 23 November starts at 6 p.m.; on Christmas Eve (24 December) the market closes at 2 p.m.

Augsburger Christkindlesmarkt 2026
The central and best-known Christmas market in Augsburg runs from 23 November to 24 December 2026 on Rathausplatz and throughout the pedestrian zone. It is regarded as one of Germany’s most beautiful markets and features traditional stalls, the large Christmas tree, the angel pyramid and the world-famous Angel Performance. Admission is free.
Augsburg Christmas Market at Martin-Luther-Platz 2026
As an extension of the main market, this section operates from November to December 2026. The stalls connect seamlessly with Rathausplatz and provide additional space for crafts and culinary offers in the historic old town.
Christmas Garden Augsburg 2026/2027
From 26 November 2026 to 9 January 2027 the Christmas Garden transforms Augsburg Zoo into a sea of lights. A roughly two-kilometre circular trail offers themed light installations and soundscapes. Opening hours are generally 17:00–21:00/21:30 (last entry earlier). Time-slot tickets are required; adult prices start at approximately €15.90 (Mon–Thu) up to €23.90 in peak season; children’s and family tickets are available at reduced rates. Children’s Christmas Market at Moritzplatz 2026
This family-friendly area near Moritzplatz is part of the Christkindlesmarkt and features a Nikolaus house, children’s carousel, performances and the angel workshop. Ideal for families with young children throughout the main market period.
Weihnachtsinsel at the Zeughaus 2026
On Advent weekends (including 27–29 November, 4–6 December, 11–13 December and 18–23 December 2026) the Christmas Island takes place at Zeugplatz 4. Expect high-quality arts and crafts, cultural programme and a quieter atmosphere away from the main market. Opening hours usually 11:00–20:00.

Admission to the Augsburger Christkindlesmarkt and most city-centre market areas is completely free. Food and drinks (mulled wine, sausages, gingerbread etc.) are paid for at the individual stalls. The Christmas Garden Augsburg requires timed tickets; prices start at around €15.90 for adults and are cheaper when purchased online in advance. - Best reached by public transport: tram lines 1 and 2 to Rathausplatz or bus line 32 to the Zoo (Christmas Garden). Parking in the city centre is limited – use park-and-ride facilities.
- Warm, weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes are essential; November and December temperatures can be cold and wet.
- Book hotels and accommodation in the city centre early, as the Advent season is very popular.
