Welcome to the Basel Christmas Market 2026

From 26 November to 23 December 2026, Basel transforms into one of Europe's most enchanting Christmas destinations. Spanning across the historic Barfüsserplatz and the magnificent Münsterplatz, the traditional Basel Christmas Market is widely considered the largest and most beautiful in Switzerland. Around 150 festively decorated wooden chalets, the scent of mulled wine and Basel Läckerli, and stunning festive illuminations captivate millions of visitors.

Program

The market is open daily from 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM. In addition to the main squares, visitors can explore the illuminated Old Town streets and the "Adväntsgass" at Claraplatz. On the final day (23 December), the market at Barfüsserplatz closes at 8:00 PM, while the Münsterplatz market closes earlier at 6:00 PM.

Admission to the Basel Christmas Market is completely free. No tickets or advance reservations are required, allowing visitors to freely stroll through the festive squares and alleys at their own leisure.
