Welcome to the Berchtesgadener Advent 2026/2027 in Berchtesgaden

From 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, the Berchtesgadener Advent transforms the historic center of Berchtesgaden into a magical Alpine Christmas market. Around 50 lovingly decorated huts stand between the royal castle, collegiate church and town houses, with the mighty Watzmann watching over the scene. Admission is free.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

The Berchtesgadener Advent runs for 44 days and is open most days from 11 or 12 noon until 8 pm (until 7 pm after Christmas). Daily music performances take place from 3 to 5 pm on Castle Square. Highlights include the tower brass players on Sundays, the Christmas tree labyrinth, the painting workshop and the Lantern Trail. Opening hours are shorter on 24 and 31 December; the market is closed on 25 December.

Additional programme items include historic market tours, culinary tours, candle dipping and traditional marksmen customs. The children’s area with puppet shows and St. Nicholas visits provides family-friendly entertainment.

The main market in the historic town centre delivers authentic Bavarian Advent atmosphere with views of the Watzmann. Regional products, mulled wine, roasted almonds and handmade Christmas decorations define the offer. The Children’s Advent forms a dedicated area with free access to most attractions (carousel and train for a fee).
