Welcome to the Bevrijdingsfestival Brabant 2027 in ’s-Hertogenbosch

Bevrijdingsfestival Brabant 2027 takes place on Wednesday 5 May 2027 at Pettelaarse Schans in ’s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch). Liberation Day marks the freeing of the Netherlands in 1944–45, and Brabant marks it with a free open-air day of live music, talks and family activities. Admission is free; food and drinks are paid on site. The 2027 lineup is not final yet, and the official site is already letting the audience help choose the bill.

Highlights & Attractions at Bevrijdingsfestival Brabant in ’s-Hertogenbosch

  • A free festival on Dutch Liberation Day, 5 May, on the star-shaped former fortress island of Pettelaarse Schans, opposite the provincial government building.
  • Several stages spanning pop, rock, hip-hop and more. In 2026 the main areas included Horizon, De Kaap, Buitengewoon and Bries; 2027 stage names are not confirmed yet.
  • More than concerts: recent editions added a family freedom square with talks, poetry, a makers’ market and stalls from groups such as Amnesty International, UNICEF and the Netherlands Veterans Institute.
  • Lighting of the freedom flame, plus a dedicated 5 May moment on site. Across the country, Liberation Festivals traditionally pause for two minutes at 16:55. The exact 2027 slot will be published with the timetable.
  • Ambassadors of Freedom: artists who play several provincial festivals on the same day and speak about what freedom means to them.
  • Food trucks with vegetarian options. Payment on site was card-only (no cash) at the last edition.
  • The ground is unpaved sand and grass. In 2026 there was an accessible viewing deck at the Horizon main stage and an accessible toilet. Closer parking can be requested via [email protected].

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027

Recent editions opened the site from 12:00 to 23:00. Some side events started earlier, including a Get Together for Freedom from 10:30. Treat 12:00–23:00 as the working window until the 2027 timetable is published. The day mixes headliners, regional acts, dance slots and quieter stages for poetry, monologues and family programming.

The 2026 bill included K’s Choice, Merol, Josylvio, Karsu, Naga Kirana and Postmen, among others. The 2027 lineup is still open, and the organisation is asking the public to help decide who plays. Names, the block schedule and the exact time of the 5 May moment will go up on bevrijdingsfestivalbrabant.nl. The 2025 edition drew about 31,000 visits across the day, so arrive early if you want a spot near the main stage.

Tickets & Admission for Bevrijdingsfestival Brabant ’s-Hertogenbosch

At the last edition the site was cashless and card-only. Follow bevrijdingsfestivalbrabant.nl for the lineup and any schedule changes. There is no wristband or registration for general entry.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in ’s-Hertogenbosch

  • Getting there: ’s-Hertogenbosch station has direct trains from Utrecht, Eindhoven, Tilburg and Nijmegen. In 2026 free shuttle buses ran between the station and Pettelaarse Schans (two buses from about 12:00 to 22:00, an extra bus from 22:00 to midnight). City buses also stop at Provinciehuis, including lines 1, 156, 306, 11 and 154. Bike racks are provided on site.
  • By car: in 2026 parking at the Provinciehuis and Canon lots was free, and those lots closed at midnight. When they filled up, overflow went to Transferium Pettelaarpark, which may charge a fee. Check the 2027 plan on the festival website before you drive.
  • Weather and ground: early May in Den Bosch often sits around 15–18 °C by day and cooler after dark, with a real chance of showers. The island is sand and grass, not tarmac – wear sturdy shoes, a light jacket and a rain layer.
  • Where to stay: this is a one-day festival with no campsite. If you stay overnight, book early in the centre of ’s-Hertogenbosch. 5 May is a national holiday, though not every workplace is closed. The site is a short bus or bike ride from the station and the old town.
  • On site: bring a bank card, not cash. Vegetarian food is widely available. If you need step-free access, email [email protected] about closer parking. Children are welcome; the family programme in recent years ran roughly from 12:00 to 18:00.
