Welcome to the Bad Staffelstein Beer Brewers Festival 2026

Every year on 15 August, the Assumption Day holiday, the historic market square in front of Bad Staffelstein's striking half timbered town hall turns into a lively beer stage. The Bierbrauerfest is one of the highlights of the year in this Upper Franconian spa town, home to eleven of its own breweries, making it one of Germany's most beer rich towns per capita.

Highlights

  • All eleven Bad Staffelstein breweries pouring their specialty beers
  • Franconian music from local bands throughout the day
  • Hearty regional food, from cold snacks to warm dishes
  • Official ceremonial keg tapping in the morning
  • Every two years: election of the Bad Staffelstein Beer King or Queen
  • Historic setting around the half timbered town hall on the market square

Program

The festival starts in the morning, with a local brass band setting a festive mood from around 10:00 AM. The first highlight is the official ceremonial tapping, when all eleven breweries open their barrels together. Throughout the day, brass music, traditional costume bands and hosted program segments take turns on the market square. At the stalls, visitors can sample the full range of Bad Staffelstein beer specialties alongside Franconian food, from hearty to sweet. The festival ends around 10:00 PM.

Tickets

Admission to the Bierbrauerfest is free; food and drinks are paid for directly at the stalls. No reservation is needed, as the festival fills the entire market square.

Visitor Tips

  • Since 15 August is a Bavarian public holiday, the square gets busy already in the morning; arrive early for a good spot.
  • Bad Staffelstein is easily reached by train (Bad Staffelstein station); the old town is best explored on foot.
  • To try all eleven breweries, plan enough time for a full walk around the market square.
  • The holiday pairs well with a visit to the nearby Basilica of Vierzehnheiligen.
  • Bring water and seek shade in warm weather, as the festival takes place outdoors.
