Event Details

Welcome to the Bockbieranstich 2027 in Schammelsdorf

At the long established Brauerei Knoblach in Schammelsdorf, part of the municipality of Litzendorf in the Bamberg district, the first barrel of the season's new bock beer is traditionally tapped every autumn. The brewery has been family run since 1880 and sits in the rolling hill region known as the Fränkische Toskana, just a short distance from Bamberg.

Please note: an official date for the 2027 Bockbieranstich had not yet been published at the time of writing. In previous years the event traditionally took place on the first Friday of October, most recently on October 3, 2025. This page will be updated once the brewery confirms a fixed date for 2027.

Highlights and Attractions at the Bockbieranstich in Schammelsdorf

  • The ceremonial tapping of the brewery's new, strong bock beer
  • In past years the day opened with a traditional Weisswurst breakfast in the morning
  • Live music in the brewery's beer garden in the evening
  • Franconian cuisine alongside the house beers Räuschla, unfiltered lager, dark country beer and wheat beer
  • A family run traditional brewery with a cozy inn and beer garden at the foot of the Stammberg hill
  • Part of the Fränkische Toskana, a region known for its dense concentration of small breweries

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in 2027

The exact schedule for 2027 has not yet been confirmed. In previous editions the day began in the morning with a Weisswurst breakfast and the barrel tapping itself, while the evening featured live music in the beer garden. Alongside the freshly tapped bock beer, traditional Franconian dishes are a regular part of the brewery restaurant's offering.

Tickets and Admission for the Bockbieranstich at Knoblach

Entry to the Bockbieranstich is free of charge; guests pay directly on site for food and drinks. Given the event's popularity, reserving a table in the restaurant or beer garden in advance can be worthwhile.

Visitor Tips: Travel and Surroundings of Schammelsdorf

  • Schammelsdorf lies about 10 kilometers southwest of Bamberg and is easily reached by car or bicycle through the Fränkische Toskana
  • The region forms part of the so called 13 Brauereienweg, a popular route for beer hiking
  • Evenings in late September or early October can already turn cool, so a warm jacket is a good idea
  • A visit pairs well with a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bamberg nearby
  • Since the brewery restaurant is fairly small, arriving early is advisable when turnout is high
