Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Bruges

  • Best arrival by train: Bruges station is within walking distance of the historic centre; free local buses operate on selected shopping days.
  • Warm, weatherproof clothing and comfortable shoes are essential – the old town has cobbled streets and can be cold and damp.
  • Book accommodation early, especially for Advent weekends; the city is very popular in peak season.
  • Use car parks on the edge of the centre (e.g. Centrum-’t Zand near the ice rink); the inner city is largely traffic-calmed.
  • Visit on weekdays or in the early afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds.
