Welcome to New Year’s Eve & New Year 2026/2027 in Bucharest
Bucharest rings in 2027 mainly in the Old Town (Centrul Vechi / Lipscani) and around University Square. On 31 December 2026, city-centre concerts, square gatherings and late-night clubs overlap; 1 January 2027 stays a long party night. Public open-air line-ups are usually confirmed only in late autumn. As of late August 2026, the official 2026/2027 outdoor programme had not yet been published.

A typical night starts around 19:00, when squares and cobbled streets fill, restaurants serve festive menus and stages open. Midnight is the peak, often with a light, laser or multimedia countdown rather than unrestricted fireworks. After 00:00 the Old Town stays the main after-party zone until about 04:00–05:00. In recent years the largest free outdoor concert was often held in Piata Alba Iulia (Winter Wonderland), not on University Square itself. Whether a similar official concert returns for 31 December 2026 will be confirmed later by the city.
Expect three formats: free public squares (if organised), ticketed hall events, and private restaurant or club packages. Music ranges from Romanian classics and Balkan live bands to DJ sets. Because Bucharest limited pyrotechnics in 2026, visitors should plan for authorised light and drone shows more than a city-wide fireworks canopy over every square.

Public square events are usually free (EUR 0). Many Old Town bars have no cover charge; you pay for drinks and food. Restaurant and club packages in the last season typically ranged from about EUR 105 to EUR 230 per person (converted from roughly 550–1,190 RON at about EUR 1 = RON 5.26 in August 2026), often including a festive menu and open bar. Simple club entry started around EUR 30; premium group tables cost more. Full 31 December 2026 price lists were not yet widely published by late August 2026 and usually rise as December approaches.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Bucharest
- Use Universitate (M2) and Unirii (M1/M3) metro stations; both are a short walk from University Square and the Old Town. Taxis surge after midnight.
- Late December is cold, often near freezing, with wind in the narrow streets – wear layers, sturdy shoes, hat and gloves.
- Book hotels and apartments near Lipscani, Unirii and University Square early; New Year’s Eve is peak season.
- Reserve restaurants and clubs in the Old Town in advance – walk-ins on 31 December are hard to find.
- Carry card and some cash; queues at doors and cloakrooms are long, and many clubs require ID (often 18+).
