High above the Danube, on the medieval Aggstein Castle ruins in the Wachau valley, the Aggsteiner BURGADVENT returns in 2026. Official information from the castle differs slightly from other listings: the market actually opens on October 30 with a Halloween special weekend and then continues over three further November weekends through November 22, 2026. Within the historic walls of the ruin, more than 100 vendors turn the site into an atmospheric setting that blends medieval flair with the approaching Christmas season, all set against a striking view over the Wachau valley.

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in Aggstein
The Burgadvent runs across four weekends: an opening weekend on October 30 and 31 plus November 1, 2026, themed around Halloween, followed by three more festive weekends on November 6 to 8, November 13 to 15 and November 20 to 22, 2026. Opening hours are Friday from 2 pm to 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm. Shuttle buses run between the parking area in Aggstein and the castle throughout the event.
Tickets and Admission for the Burgadvent 2026
Online tickets purchased for entry before 12:30 pm cost 8.50 euros for adults and 6.00 euros for children aged 6 to 16, while tickets for entry from 1 pm onward cost 10.50 euros for adults and 8.00 euros for children. Tickets bought on site cost a flat 10.50 euros for adults and 8.00 euros for children all day. The shuttle bus to the castle costs an additional 3.00 euros per person for the round trip. The Lower Austria Card is not accepted at this event.
Visitor Tips: Travel and Accommodation in Aggstein
- By train, travel to Krems an der Donau or Melk and continue by regional bus line 720 to the Aggsteiner Hof stop
- Parking is available in Aggstein along route B33 opposite the Aggsteiner Hof, direct vehicle access to the castle is not possible during the event
- Those who prefer to walk can reach the castle from Aggstein in about 40 minutes via the steep Eselsteig path, or from Maria Langegg in around 60 minutes on a more family friendly route
- Since many vendors only accept cash, bring enough with you, the nearest ATMs are located in Melk, Gansbach and Mautern
- Warm clothing is recommended since the event takes place outdoors and in unheated historic rooms
Within the small municipality of Schönbühel Aggsbach itself there is no other major Christmas market, making the Burgadvent on Aggstein the central seasonal event of the area.
