Welcome to New Year’s Eve 2026/2027 in Bologna

Bologna rings in 2026/2027 with tradition and nightlife side by side: on 31 December 2026 the city gathers in Piazza Maggiore for the Rogo del Vecchione – the symbolic burning of the giant year-end effigy – while clubs, discos and themed parties carry the celebration into 1 January 2027. As of mid-October 2026 the full municipal programme (Vecchione artist, DJ line-up, exact security rules) had not yet been published; the event has followed the same annual pattern for decades. Official updates appear on the City of Bologna and Bologna Welcome channels.

Highlights & Attractions at Capodanno in Bologna

  • Free public climax in Piazza Maggiore: countdown, midnight Rogo del Vecchione and open-air dancefloor (historically capped at about 9,000 people at once).
  • Century-old ritual: the Vecchione represents the year that is ending; its design and message change every year under a guest artist.
  • Music on the Crescentone: in recent editions DJ sets started around 22:00 and continued after the fire into the early hours.
  • Dense club scene: rock/indie (including Covo Club), hip-hop, house, Latin, LGBTQIA+ parties and themed disco nights across the city.
  • Already announced ticketed event for 31 December 2026: Rock & Metal jam session at Alchemica Music Club (about 25 euro, including sparkling wine, panettone and lentils).
  • Hotel and gala evenings with set dinner, live music or open bar at a wide range of price points.
  • Night bus lines N (Tper) and typical access controls on the square; glass and cans were banned in the festival zone in the previous edition.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

Piazza Maggiore – Rogo del Vecchione (traditionally free)
In the last edition, entry opened around 21:30 (checks from Piazza Nettuno and Via dell’Archiginnasio; extra exits via Via IV Novembre and Piazza Re Enzo). Music and the dancefloor started near 22:00; at midnight the Vecchione is burned, then DJs continue. Capacity, the 2026/27 artist and DJ names are still to be confirmed. Accessible entry was organised via Via IV Novembre to the area in front of San Petronio. Coupon systems for capacity control and bans (firecrackers, glass/cans in the zone) are standard – always check the city’s 2026 ordinance once published.

Club and disco parties (selection, research as of October 2026)

  • Alchemica Music Club (Via dei Lapidari 8/b): “Capodanno 2027 – Jam Session Rock & Metal + DJ Set + Lenticchiata”, 31 December 2026, doors about 21:00, jam from 22:00; participation fee about 25 euro (sparkling wine, panettone and lentils included; drink card for performers).
  • Covo Club (Viale Zagabria 1, Casalone): Long-standing rock/indie NYE; 2026/27 line-up still TBA – previous season featured a live band plus All-Stars DJ set; HOVOC membership required.
  • Other venues that typically host NYE (full 2026/27 programmes usually land in November/December): Locomotiv Club, Cassero LGBTQIA+ Center, DumBO, Sghetto Club, Kindergarten, Link, Numa Club (Latin), BoMa Club, Qubo, Millennium Club. Recent door prices often ranged from about 10 to 35 euro (sometimes plus ARCI/AICS/HOVOC card).
  • Hotel and gala evenings: themed dinners with DJ or live music (including Sydney Hotel / ExtraNight-style formats, Grand Hotel Majestic and others); prices from under 100 euro to several hundred per person – book direct with the venue.

Theatres and concerts (EuropAuditorium, Arena del Sole, Palazzo Re Enzo and more) often add New Year’s shows and 1 January concerts; tickets via each house and Bologna Welcome.

Tickets & Admission for Capodanno Bologna

The public event in Piazza Maggiore is traditionally free; there is no online ticket, only on-site capacity control. Club and disco tickets typically start around 10–25 euro (early bird cheaper); gala and hotel packages cost more. Confirmed for 31 December 2026 is the Alchemica jam session at about 25 euro. Many clubs require a yearly membership card (HOVOC, ARCI, AICS or similar). Buy only through official promoter channels or Bologna Welcome; the municipal Vecchione programme and final club line-ups are usually released in December on comune.bologna.it, culturabologna.it and bolognawelcome.com.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Bologna

  • Getting there: Bologna Centrale is a short walk or bus ride from Piazza Maggiore; city buses (e.g. 11, 30) and night lines N (Tper) link the centre and outer districts. Expect closures around Piazza Maggiore, Via Rizzoli and Via Ugo Bassi – walking or public transport is easier than driving.
  • Weather and clothing: New Year’s Eve in Bologna is often cold and damp (single-digit temperatures). Warm layers, sturdy shoes and rain protection help; the square offers little shelter from wind.
  • Where to stay: Central and trade-fair hotels and apartments sell out early for Silvester – book ahead. If you only want the Vecchione, you can return by N bus after midnight.
  • Safety: No unauthorised fireworks; glass and cans were banned in the festival zone last year. Arrive early for a clear view of the Vecchione, agree a meeting point and keep your phone charged. When the square is full, many move to side streets or straight into the clubs.
  • Planning: Check official Vecchione details and club programmes for 2026/2027 in late autumn/winter. For rock/indie watch Covo and Alchemica; for Latin Numa, Qubo and BoMa; for LGBTQIA+ the Cassero – and always confirm each venue’s card and age rules.
