Welcome to the Carnevale di Putignano 2027 in Putignano
Carnevale di Putignano 2027 is Europe’s oldest carnival and the largest in Southern Italy. Since 1394 the small town of Putignano in Puglia has transformed its streets into a stage for giant papier-mâché floats, sharp political satire and centuries-old rituals. Exact dates of the main parades are still to be announced; celebrations traditionally run from late December until Shrove Tuesday.

Carnevale di Putignano traditionally opens on 26 December with the Propaggini and ends on Shrove Tuesday. The four main days featuring the large allegorical float parades usually take place on Sundays and Shrove Tuesday in January or February. Between the processions, thematic Thursdays, concerts, theatre performances and neighbourhood festivals fill the town. In recent editions daily tickets cost around €16, flexible tickets slightly more, and subscriptions covering all four main days around €30. Children up to 10 years enter free. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Putignano
- Best reached by train to Putignano station (connections from Bari); the historic centre is only a few minutes’ walk from the station.
- January and February in Puglia are cool and often rainy – pack warm, weatherproof clothing and comfortable shoes.
- Book hotels and apartments in Putignano and the surrounding area early, as parade days are very popular.
- Buy tickets online in advance to avoid queues; many events outside the main parades are free to attend.
