What is Chopin Orbit in Ascona?
Chopin Orbit is a piano recital by Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino (stage name "Cateen"), one of the most sought after young musicians of his generation and a celebrated YouTube star in the classical music world. The concert is part of classicAscona, the 81st edition of the long running Settimane Musicali Ascona, the second oldest music festival in Switzerland after the Lucerne Festival.

In his program "Chopin Orbit", Hayato Sumino places his own compositions alongside major piano works by Frédéric Chopin and adds pieces by Camille Saint Saëns, Thomas Adès and Igor Stravinsky. He moves between different instruments, from modern grand piano to a vintage piano, and improvises on well known Chopin motifs such as the "Raindrop Prelude" and the Berceuse. The program includes Chopin's Scherzo No. 1, his Piano Sonata No. 2, several etudes and mazurkas, plus excerpts from Stravinsky's "The Firebird".

Born in 1995, the pianist is one of the most in demand young classical artists worldwide. His aim is to break the habits of traditional concert programs and create new sound worlds by combining classical repertoire with his own compositions and improvisations.
