A truly unique experience: The Christmas Market in the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage village of Hallstatt takes place on just one single day each year – on the public holiday of December 8th, 2026. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Hallstatt and the snow-capped Dachstein mountains, the tiny Marktplatz transforms into one of Austria's most idyllic and intimate boutique Christmas markets.

The market on Marktplatz will be open on Tuesday, December 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Visitors can experience genuine, unadulterated customs up close. Accompanied by the traditional sounds of the local brass musicians, beautifully decorated stalls invite you to linger over local handicrafts, hot drinks like mulled wine and punch, and regional delicacies. Because the event is run entirely by the local community, it offers a very authentic, boutique feel.

Admission to the Hallstatt Christmas Market is completely free of charge. No advance tickets or reservations are needed. However, since it is a one-day-only event on a national holiday, arriving early is highly recommended to beat the heaviest crowds.
