In Advent 2026, Abensberg transforms into a fairy-tale Christmas town. Two outstanding markets define the season: Kuchlbauer’s Tower Christmas Market at the Hundertwasser Tower and the romantic Niklasmarkt in the historic castle garden. Both markets are free to enter and combine spectacular light displays, regional food and traditional crafts.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

Kuchlbauer’s Tower Christmas Market runs from 25 November to 20 December 2026 on all four Advent weekends (Wednesday to Sunday). Opening hours: Wednesday & Thursday 2–9 pm, Friday 2–10 pm, Saturday 12–10 pm, Sunday 12–9 pm. The market around the illuminated Hundertwasser Tower and KunstHausAbensberg features crafts, food stalls and optional guided tours of the beer world.

The Niklasmarkt in the castle garden takes place from 26 November to 13 December 2026 on the first three Advent weekends (Thursday to Sunday). Opening hours: Thursday 4–9 pm, Friday 4–10 pm, Saturday 2–10 pm, Sunday 2–9 pm. Historic atmosphere, choirs, brass music and the traditional Niklas donation ceremony characterise this market.

Kuchlbauer’s Tower Christmas Market 2026

Kuchlbauer’s Tower Christmas Market is the spectacular light market at the Kuchlbauer brewery. Hundreds of thousands of LED lights illuminate the golden Hundertwasser Tower and KunstHausAbensberg. Visitors enjoy regional specialities, arts and crafts, and the option of guided tours through the beer world and the tower. Market admission is free. Parking is available at the large Gillamoos meadow car park (Münchener Straße 23); a short walk or shuttle takes you to the market. Address: Römerstraße 5-9, 93326 Abensberg. Niklasmarkt Abensberg 2026

The Niklasmarkt is held in the romantic castle garden at Aventinusplatz 6 and is regarded as one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in eastern Bavaria. On the first three Advent weekends, visitors stroll past festively decorated stalls, enjoy mulled wine and regional treats against a historic backdrop. On the first two Thursdays the Niklas donation ceremony is performed in memory of the knight Niklas of Abensberg, after which children receive Niklas gingerbread. The heated Hexenheisl hut is available for groups. Organised by MiA bewegt e.V. Admission is free.

Tickets & Admission for the Christmas Markets Abensberg

Both markets are completely free to enter. Optional guided tours of Kuchlbauer’s World of Beer and the Hundertwasser Tower can be booked (adult prices from approx. €17.50, children reduced). Current prices and booking options are available on the official website kuchlbauer.de. No tickets are required for the Niklasmarkt.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Abensberg

  • By train to Abensberg station (RB17/RE18), then about 400 m walk to the tower or a short distance to the castle garden
  • By car: A93 exit Abensberg, use the large Gillamoos meadow car park (shuttle available)
  • Warm, weatherproof clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended – December can be cold and wet
  • Book accommodation in Abensberg or nearby early, especially for weekends
  • Both markets can easily be combined on one day – they are within walking distance of each other
