Northern Europe's Biggest Food Festival – 10 Days in Copenhagen

From 21 to 30 August 2026, the Copenhagen Cooking & Food Festival transforms the Danish capital into a sprawling celebration of Nordic gastronomy. Farmers' markets fill Israels Plads, long-table dinners for over 1,200 guests take place in the city's hidden courtyards, and the official festival site in the Meat District Kødbyen runs from 27 to 30 August with hands-on workshops, stage performances and free activities. With more than 400 events and around 80,000 visitors each year, Copenhagen Cooking is the ultimate food lover's destination in late summer.

Festival Theme 2026: The Apple

Each edition of Copenhagen Cooking celebrates a special annual theme. In 2026, the apple takes centre stage: a dedicated series of events brings together chefs, producers and food artists to explore Scandinavia's most versatile fruit. Expect artisan cider tastings, apple-based culinary challenges and workshops on traditional Danish preservation techniques. As the 2026 friendship region, the Croatian peninsula of Istria joins the festival with collaborative pop-ups, cross-cultural tastings and Mediterranean flavours on the Nordic table.

Highlights

  • Festival site at Kødbyen (27–30 August): workshops, stage acts, tastings and free lounge areas in the former Meat District

Program and Event Formats

The festival spans a wide range of formats to suit every budget and taste. Free street food markets and public debates are open to everyone without a ticket. Workshops, cooking classes and special dinners require individual tickets booked in advance via the official festival website. Tickets for headline events at top Nordic restaurants typically sell out within days of release. The full program guide and festival app are published in English from early July each year, making the festival highly accessible for international visitors.

Tickets and Prices

Copenhagen Cooking operates as a mixed-access festival. Many markets and outdoor events are entirely free of charge. Ticketed dining experiences start at around €35 and rise to approximately €250 for exclusive Michelin-level multi-course dinners. Premium "En bid af stjernerne" (A Taste of the Stars) tickets offer access to gala dinners and intimate chef sessions.
