Welcome to the Dachauer Volksfest 2027 in Dachau
The Dachauer Volksfest is the social highlight of the year in the Dachau region and one of the most popular folk festivals in the Munich area. From 7 to 16 August 2027 the Ludwig-Thoma-Wiese at the foot of the old town turns into a festive centre for ten days with five tents, rides and Bavarian tradition. The festival is especially valued for its authentic atmosphere and significantly lower beer prices compared to the Munich Oktoberfest.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
The Dachauer Volksfest lasts ten days and traditionally takes place around the Assumption Day holiday. On opening Saturday the day begins with a concert in front of the town hall, followed by the parade to the Ludwig-Thoma-Wiese and the official beer tapping in the large festival tent. Further highlights include the senior citizens’ afternoon, children’s day, the grand fireworks and the Dachauer Bergkriterium. The tents are open daily from 12:00 to 24:00, with music ending by 23:00 at the latest.
Tickets & Admission for Dachauer Volksfest
Admission to the Dachauer Volksfest is free of charge. There are no entrance fees. Food, drinks and rides are paid for on site. Beer prices are significantly lower than at the Munich Oktoberfest. Table reservations in the festival tents are available from spring 2027 and often linked to the purchase of consumption vouchers. Current information can be found on the City of Dachau website.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Dachau
- Best reached by S-Bahn (S2) to Dachau station – the festival grounds are only a few minutes’ walk away
- Wear comfortable shoes and traditional costume (Lederhosen/Dirndl) – paths are cobbled and often crowded
- Book accommodation in Dachau or Munich early as the festival attracts many visitors
- Plan especially for opening day and the fireworks
- Use the “quiet Wiesn” if you prefer a calmer atmosphere
