From 13 November to 30 December 2026, the renowned open-air museum Den Gamle By (The Old Town) in Aarhus invites visitors to a unique time travel experience. Over 400 years of Danish Christmas history and traditional 19th-century folk customs come alive here. Surrounded by historic, relocated buildings, visitors step into an authentic, festively illuminated winter wonderland.

Program

The museum village is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors can stroll through centuries-old, faithfully reconstructed districts, chat with historical characters, and experience authentic customs firsthand. On weekends and selected December days, traditional brass bands fill the streets with festive music. On Christmas Eve (24 December) and New Year's Eve, the grounds close early at 3:00 PM.

Tickets

Admission tickets are required to enter Den Gamle By (adult tickets range approx. €21 to €29 depending on the season, while children under 18 enter for free). Tickets can be purchased online in advance to skip the lines.
