Welcome to the Dimitria Festival 2026
From 1 to 24 October 2026, Thessaloniki hosts the 61st edition of the Dimitria Festival, the city's largest cultural event. Its origins trace back to Byzantine times, when a great trade fair was held outside the city walls in honor of Saint Demetrios, the patron saint of Thessaloniki. In its modern form, the festival has run since 1966, filling each autumn with theatre, music, dance, opera, film, literature and visual arts across historic locations throughout the city.

Program
The Municipality of Thessaloniki builds the 61st edition's program from proposals submitted by artists, associations and cultural institutions, resulting in a wide and varied offering. Highlights include theatre performances and dance evenings across several city stages, classical and contemporary music concerts at venues such as the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and the Vellideio Conference Center, opera and musical theatre productions, and literary events and art exhibitions. Many program items take place in historic churches, central squares and cultural institutions of the old town. The detailed day by day schedule is usually published in late summer.
Tickets
The majority of Dimitria Festival events are free to attend. Selected larger concerts and guest performances, such as those held at the Vellideio Conference Center, are ticketed separately, with prices announced individually for each event.
