Welcome to Diwali on the Square 2026 in London
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Trafalgar Square becomes the setting for London's biggest and best known Diwali celebration, running from 1pm to 7pm. Organized by the Mayor of London together with the Diwali in London committee, the free event brings together around 35,000 people each year to celebrate the festival of lights with London's Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities.

- An opening ceremony with around 200 vibrantly dressed dancers filling the centre of the square
- A main stage program featuring classical dance, Bollywood performances, bhangra and live music
- A sari and turban zone where visitors can try on traditional clothing

- A lively market with vegetarian and vegan South Asian food and crafts
- Henna and face painting for all ages
- An accessible viewing area on the north terrace with a hearing loop and British Sign Language interpretation

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in London
The program runs throughout the afternoon and evening on the main stage at the foot of Nelson's Column, alongside numerous activity zones spread across the square. Past highlights have included performances by the Bollywood Dance School, prayers from BAPS Neasden Temple and a live garba band by Chinmaya Mission UK. Diwali itself falls on November 8 in 2026, with the Trafalgar Square celebration traditionally held a couple of weeks earlier.

Visitor Tips: Travel and Accommodation in London
- Charing Cross station is the closest stop, just a minute on foot, with Leicester Square and Embankment also within a short walk
- Given the large crowds expected around the square, arriving by public transport is strongly recommended
- Late October weather in London can already be cool and rainy, so warm and weatherproof clothing is a good idea
- Central accommodation around Westminster or Covent Garden should be booked well ahead given the high number of visitors
