Welcome to the Twelve Grapes 2026 in Madrid
Every 31 December thousands of people gather at Puerta del Sol in Madrid to welcome the New Year by eating the traditional twelve lucky grapes. The Twelve Grapes 2026 takes place on 31 December 2026 and is the highlight of Spain’s New Year’s Eve. The clock of the Real Casa de Correos sets the pace while the whole country watches live or on television.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
On the evening of 31 December the square is cleared and reopened under security controls from around 22:00. Music and a festive mood accompany the waiting crowd. Just before midnight the ball on the clock tower descends, followed by the four quarter chimes and then the twelve strokes. One grape is eaten with each chime – finishing all twelve is said to bring good luck for the twelve months ahead. After midnight the celebrations continue in the city centre and clubs.
Tickets & Admission for Twelve Grapes Madrid
Entry to Puerta del Sol on New Year’s Eve is free. No tickets are required. Capacity is limited to approximately 15,000 people. Arrive early and expect security checks at the access points (including Calle Alcalá, Carrera de San Jerónimo, Calle Mayor and Calle Arenal). Sol metro station may be restricted or closed in the hours before midnight.
