Don Giovanni 2027 – Mozart's Masterpiece in a New Production

From 28 January to 24 June 2027, the Opéra national de Paris presents a brand-new production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Opéra Bastille. Across 20 performances, British director Louisa Proske – making her debut at the Paris Opera – brings Mozart's immortal dramma giocoso to life in the setting of a grand hotel. Performances begin at 7:30 PM, with a total running time of 3 hours 20 minutes including one interval.

The New Production

Louisa Proske, co-founder of Heartbeat Opera in New York and one of the most exciting directors of her generation, sets the action of this 1787 masterpiece in a luxury hotel: a place where social conventions are broken and the protagonists' hidden desires are revealed. Set design is by Christof Hetzer, costumes by Kaye Voyce, choreography by Jorrell Lawyer-Jefferson and lighting by Valerio Tiberi. The opera is sung in Italian with French and English surtitles.

Cast

The production features two entirely different casts across its two series:

First series (January/February 2027) conducted by Finnegan Downie Dear: Peter Mattei as Don Giovanni, Slávka Zámečníková as Donna Anna, Amitai Pati as Don Ottavio, Jacquelyn Stucker as Donna Elvira, Kwangchul Youn as Il Commendatore and Joshua Bloom as Leporello.

Second series (May/June 2027) conducted by Stéphanie Childress: Davide Luciano as Don Giovanni, Jeanine De Bique as Donna Anna, Manase Latu as Don Ottavio, Tara Erraught as Donna Elvira and Alexander Tsymbalyuk as Il Commendatore.

Schedule

The first performance series runs from 28 January to 26 February 2027. The second series follows from May to 24 June 2027. All performances take place in the Grande Salle of the Opéra Bastille (2,745 seats). Exact individual performance dates are available on the Paris Opera website.

Tickets

Tickets are available from €151 to €234 depending on seat category and performance date. Reduced-price tickets are available at the box office 30 minutes before curtain for under-28s and eligible seniors. Booking is possible via the Opéra national de Paris website or at the box offices of the Opéra Bastille and the Palais Garnier. With world-class artists such as Peter Mattei in the lead role, early booking is strongly recommended.

About the Work

Mozart's Don Giovanni, premiered on 29 October 1787 at the Estates Theatre in Prague, is widely regarded as one of the greatest works in operatic history. Based on a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, this dramma giocoso follows the relentless seducer Don Giovanni, his refusal to repent and his ultimate descent into hell. The score blends comedy and tragedy in a way unique in the operatic repertoire; Tchaikovsky predicted in 1880 that Don Giovanni would become the most popular opera in the world.
