Welcome to donaufestival 2027 in Krems
The donaufestival is one of Austria's leading festivals for genre spanning contemporary art, bringing together music, performance, art, film and discourse in the Lower Austrian town of Krems an der Donau. The 2027 edition takes place over two weekends, from 16 to 18 April and from 23 to 25 April 2027; the detailed program will be announced closer to the festival.
Highlights
- Two festival weekends with around 60 program items across several venues
- Concerts in the historic Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche
- Performances, exhibitions and film screenings at the festival grounds next to the city park
- Discourse formats with talks on the festival's annual theme
- Avant garde international positions from music, dance and visual art
- Bus shuttle between Vienna and Krems on festival days
Program
Since its repositioning in 2005 under artistic director Tomas Zierhofer Kin, the donaufestival has become a fixture of the European festival landscape; publicist and radio journalist Thomas Edlinger has led the program since 2017. Each edition is built around its own theme, reflecting on social and cultural questions that are also discussed in a talk format during the festival. The afternoon program typically starts at the Klangraum Krems Minoritenkirche, before the festival grounds next to the city park take over in the evening. Both Sundays traditionally close with highlight concerts back at the Minoritenkirche. The full 2027 lineup and schedule will be revealed closer to the festival; so far only the dates have been officially confirmed.
Tickets
Advance sales traditionally open with discounted early bird tickets in December of the previous year, followed by day tickets and the full program announcement in spring. In the 2026 edition, day tickets ranged from around 32 to 50 euros depending on category, and weekend passes started at about 89 euros; the festival also offers heavily discounted solidarity tickets at 10 euros for people with low incomes. Exact prices for 2027 have not yet been announced.
