Often referred to as the Christmas capital of Germany, Dresden offers a wide variety of unique markets. Here is a detailed overview of the locations and events for the 2026 holiday season:
Dresdner Striezelmarkt 2026
Germany's oldest Christmas market celebrates its 592nd edition on the Altmarkt square. Look forward to over 200 festively decorated wooden stalls, the world's tallest Ore Mountain step pyramid, and the famous Stollen Festival. Romantischer Weihnachtsmarkt am Dresdner Schloss 2026
Located on the south side of the Royal Palace (Residenzschloss), this market offers a highly historical and romantic atmosphere. It is the perfect spot for couples or anyone looking to escape the larger crowds. (Expected November 27 – December 24, 2026)
Neustädter Gelichter 2026
Situated in the trendy Äußere Neustadt district, this alternative market provides a completely different festive experience. It features regional artists, handmade designer goods, unique mulled wine creations, and a cozy, unconventional vibe. (Late November to December 2026)
Dresdner Mittelalter-Weihnachtsmarkt im Stallhof 2026
Step back in time within the historic courtyard of the Royal Palace. Here, blacksmiths, potters, and other craftsmen work according to old medieval traditions, while jugglers and minstrels provide authentic historic entertainment. (Late November to late December 2026)
Augustusmarkt 2026
The city's second-largest market stretches along the Hauptstraße in the Neustadt area. It beautifully combines modern design with international street food. Highlights include the blue illuminated Christmas tree and a Ferris wheel offering great views of the city. (Late November 2026 to early January 2027)
Advent auf dem Neumarkt 2026
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Frauenkirche, this market reflects the era of guilds and craftsmen. The stalls are designed in a historical style typical of the period between 1830 and 1920, offering high-quality, handmade goods. (Late November to December 23, 2026)
Pfunds Advent 2026
Held around the famous Pfunds Molkerei, known as the "most beautiful milk shop in the world," this small but exquisite market opens during the Advent weekends. It is highly recommended for foodies and lovers of special dairy and cheese delicacies. (Advent weekends 2026)
Christmas Garden Dresden 2026/2027
