Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

The evening usually opens with fireworks at the town hall, then continues with installations and shows on the Markt, Wirteltorplatz and in the main shopping streets. Past editions have featured water-and-light displays, laser shows, acrobatics and giant light figures; for 2026 the city announces “magical worlds” and special attractions. Exact show times are published closer to the date via the city and CityMa e.V. The event winds down around 22:00, alongside late-night shopping.

The following edition is expected again in November; a firm date for 2027 has not been announced yet. Check dueren.de and dueren-event.de for programme updates and any street closures.

Tickets & Admission for Düren leuchtet Duren

Food, drinks and retail purchases are at normal prices. Official info: dueren-tourismus.info and dueren-event.de.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Duren

  • Getting there: Duren sits on the Cologne–Aachen rail line (RE/RB, with ICE connections via Cologne or Aachen). From Duren station it is only a short walk to the city centre and the Markt. By car, expect temporary closures in the centre (in previous years from mid-afternoon); use edge car parks and arrive early.
  • Weather and clothing: Early November evenings in North Rhine-Westphalia are often cool and damp. Wear warm layers, sturdy shoes and a rain poncho – useful for night photography in backlight and reflections.
  • Where to stay: Book hotels or guesthouses in Duren early if you plan a late evening. Cologne and Aachen are easy day-trip bases with more lodging options.
  • Photography: Illuminated façades, figures and the fireworks are strong subjects for night shots. A tripod or stable surface helps; respect crowds and safety zones around the town hall.
  • Families and access: The event is free and family-friendly. Crowds can be large (tens of thousands in past years), so arrive early, agree meeting points and follow city notices on closures and bus diversions.
