Welcome to the Dürener Frühlingsfest 2027 in Duren
The Dürener Frühlingsfest opens the special-market season in the centre of Duren. For many years it has been held on the weekend before Easter and combines a large flea market with a children’s flea market, food stalls and the first Sunday of the year when city-centre shops stay open. The last edition ran from 28 to 30 March 2026. No official 2027 date had been published at the time of writing. Easter Sunday 2027 falls on 28 March, so check the City of Duren website before you travel.
Highlights & Attractions at Dürener Frühlingsfest in Duren
- Flea-market and trade stalls through the pedestrian zone, including Kölnstraße, the market square and parts of Kaiserplatz
- Children’s flea market for children and teenagers up to 15, traditionally on Kaiserplatz, Wirteltorplatz, Kuhgasse and other stretches of the centre
- Second-hand toys, clothes, books, decorations and household goods, plus a few stalls selling new items
- Spring flowers on the market square, with views of St. Anne’s Church, the town hall and the historic centre
- Small children’s carousels as a preview of the later fair season
- Snack stalls with savoury and sweet food, plus outdoor tables at cafés and restaurants
- Open-for-business Sunday, most recently from 13:00 to 18:00, so regular shops in the centre are open as well
Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
In 2026 the festival opened on Saturday 28 March and ran through Monday 30 March, daily from 10:00 to 20:00. The official opening was at 11:00 on Kölnstraße at the corner of Wirtelstraße, followed by the traditional election of a flea-market king or queen. That pattern has long matched the weekend before Easter. Whether 2027 is again scheduled Saturday to Monday will only be clear once the city confirms the date.
Professional traders and hobby sellers are mainly placed on Kölnstraße and on parts of the market square and Kaiserplatz. Children’s stalls are kept separate, including the area between the trees on Kaiserplatz, the town-hall side, Zehnthofstraße, the southern market from Weierstraße, Wirteltorplatz and Kuhgasse between C&A and the Stadtcenter. The route runs from the Stadtcenter in Kuhgasse to St. Anne’s Church on Oberstraße, and from the town-hall forecourt into Kölnstraße. The regular weekly market is usually moved forward that weekend. In 2026 bus stops at Kaiserplatz were temporarily relocated because of the stalls; check current transport notices before you go.
Tickets & Admission for Dürener Frühlingsfest Duren
Admission is free. There is no visitor ticket. You only pay for goods, food or a ride. Anyone who wanted to run a children’s stall in 2026 needed a pitch card at 15 euros per day for about three metres of frontage. That fee is for sellers, not for visitors. Cards are sold by the City of Duren, Department of Urban Development. Sale times for 2027 have not been announced yet.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Duren
- Duren station is a short walk or bus ride from the centre. Car parks at Kuhgasse, Arnoldsweilerstraße, Marienstraße and Schützenstraße stayed open all day on Sunday in 2026.
- Late March along the Rur can still be cold, wet and windy. Rain and storms in 2026 kept many sellers away. Wear sturdy shoes and a waterproof jacket.
- Book hotels in the centre or in the Duren district early if the weekend overlaps with Easter travel.
- Bring cash. Many second-hand stalls do not take cards, and prices are open to bargaining.
- Confirm the official 2027 dates and any bus-stop changes on dueren.de shortly before you visit. Until the city publishes them, any specific weekend is only an estimate.
