Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The market opens quietly on the Thursday after Buß- und Bettag (19 November 2026). After three quieter days before Totensonntag, the official opening follows on 23 November. Opening hours every open day are 11:00–21:00. In some past years the final hour could be extended depending on crowds; the city of Düren’s published closing time is 21:00. On 22 November 2026 (Totensonntag) the entire market remains closed.
The supporting programme changes weekly and is announced on site at the stage. Typical offerings include concerts, sing-alongs and performances for children. In previous years a Christmas funfair (Weihnachtskirmes) has often run in parallel at Wirteltorplatz; check the city website for the current status. A Sunday shopping day in the city centre is planned for 20 December 2026 (13:00–18:00 in participating shops).

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Duren
- Getting there: The Marktplatz sits in the pedestrian zone. By train, use Düren station (regional and local services toward Cologne and Aachen); the centre is only a short walk. By car, city centre multi-storey car parks are the most practical option.
- Weather and clothing: November and December in North Rhine-Westphalia are often cold and wet. Warm shoes, layers and a weatherproof jacket are recommended; most of the market is outdoors.
- Where to stay: Hotels and guesthouses in Düren and nearby (toward Aachen or Cologne) fill up on busy Advent weekends – book early.
- Families: The carousel and weekend Santa visits work well for children. The Living Nativity is a quieter traditional highlight – confirm performance times on site or on the city website.
- Note: The market is closed on Totensonntag (22 November 2026). The stage notice board and the official City of Düren website are the most reliable sources for last-minute changes.
