Welcome to Edinburgh's Hogmanay 2026 in Edinburgh
Held annually since 1993, Edinburgh's Hogmanay is one of the world's most famous New Year celebrations, turning the Scottish capital into a four-day winter festival from 29 December 2026 to 1 January 2027. The centrepiece is the Street Party around Princes Street on New Year's Eve, where around 45,000 revellers gather beneath the dramatic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle to welcome the new year.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect on New Year's Eve in Edinburgh
The festival opens on 29 December with the Torchlight Procession, running from the Meadows through the historic Old Town. 30 December ("Night Afore") brings the first concerts and stage programming. On Hogmanay itself, the Street Party opens its gates at 20:00, hourly firework teasers begin at 21:00, and at midnight the main fireworks display over the castle marks the moment revellers join together to sing "Auld Lang Syne". The event winds down by around 00:50. Full stage line-ups, set times, and the headliner for the 2026/2027 Concert in the Gardens have not yet been announced and will be released closer to the date, so visitors should keep checking the official website.
Tickets & Admission for Edinburgh's Hogmanay in Edinburgh
The Street Party is a paid, ticketed event. Early-bird tickets start at around 38€ (converted from £33), rising to roughly 63€ (about £55) closer to the event. Entry is via one of three pre-assigned gates (East, West or South), and gate changes are not permitted after purchase. Other ticketed elements, such as the Torchlight Procession and the Concert in the Gardens, are booked separately, while many New Year's Day events — including First Footin' and the traditional Loony Dook (a New Year's swim, now run as a free community event in South Queensferry) — are free to attend. - Extensive road closures are in place across the city centre on Hogmanay night, so public transport and designated walking routes are the best way to get around
- Dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear, as the Street Party is entirely outdoors and standing-only
- Central Edinburgh hotels sell out months ahead of Hogmanay, so early booking is strongly recommended
- Umbrellas, glass containers, drones and fireworks are prohibited within the event arena for safety reasons
- For free fireworks viewing, Calton Hill and parts of the West End offer good vantage points outside the ticketed arena
