From November 24 to December 22, 2026, Erfurt's old town turns into one of the most atmospheric Christmas settings in Germany. At its heart is the Erfurt Christmas Market on Domplatz Square, while several other markets across the city center and in the egapark add their own distinct character to the season.

The Erfurt Christmas Market on Domplatz Square draws over a million visitors a year, making it one of the largest and most important Christmas markets in Germany. Set against Erfurt Cathedral and St Severus Church, a roughly 25 meter tall Christmas tree, a historic ferris wheel and more than 200 wooden huts define the square. 2026 dates: November 24 to December 22.
Medieval Market by Erfurt Cathedral: Historic Charm Around Domplatz
Alongside the classic Christmas market, a medieval themed area in Erfurt's old town adds extra historic charm, with traditional crafts, open fire pits and a medieval market atmosphere. Exact 2026 dates have not yet been officially confirmed; in previous years the market ran from late November into early January.
Fischmarkt Christmas Market: Festive Spirit in Front of the Town Hall
At Fischmarkt, right between the town hall and historic townhouses, the Erfurt Christmas Market continues with a particularly central city atmosphere. This section runs alongside the main market from November 24 to December 22, 2026.
Anger Christmas Market: Advent Along Erfurt's Shopping Street
Anger, Erfurt's main shopping street, also becomes part of the Christmas market during Advent, combining festive strolling with city center shopping. This area is likewise open from November 24 to December 22, 2026.
Erfurt Christmas Market at egapark: Lights and Family Program in the Park
At egapark in southwestern Erfurt, the park along Gothaer Straße turns into its own winter world of light installations and family activities, best visited as a separate outing from Domplatz Square. 2026 dates: November 24 to December 26, adult admission 5.50 euros, children under 16 free.

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in Erfurt
The main market on Domplatz Square is open Sunday through Wednesday from 10am to 8pm, Thursdays from 10am to 9pm, and Friday and Saturday from 10am to 10pm. It traditionally opens with a fairy tale performance staged by Theater Erfurt, and on Advent weekends visitors can look forward to a rich program of music and seasonal performances around Domplatz, Fischmarkt and Anger.
Tickets and Admission for the Erfurt Christmas Markets
Admission to the Erfurt Christmas Market on Domplatz Square as well as the Fischmarkt and Anger sections is completely free, with only individual attractions such as the ferris wheel costing extra. The Christmas market at egapark, on the other hand, charges admission of 5.50 euros for adults, while children under 16 enter free.
Visitor Tips: Travel and Accommodation in Erfurt
- Tram lines 3, 4 and 6 take you directly to Domplatz Square, while lines 2 or 4 to the ega/Haupteingang stop serve the egapark
- On foot, it takes about 15 minutes from the main train station through the pedestrian zone via Anger and Fischmarkt
- Warm clothing and sturdy footwear are worth packing for the cold evening hours during Advent
- Accommodation in Erfurt's old town should be booked early given the high number of visitors
- If you plan to visit both Domplatz and the egapark, it is worth setting aside a separate evening for each
