Welcome to the European World of Bluegrass 2027 in Voorthuizen

The European World of Bluegrass (EWOB) is the Netherlands’ leading international bluegrass festival, traditionally held in Voorthuizen over Ascension weekend. The 25th edition ran from 29 to 31 May 2025 at Ontmoetingscentrum De Eng. There is no EWOB in 2026; the board’s goal is to return as soon as possible after that. A 2027 edition is not yet confirmed. If it follows the usual Ascension pattern, the likely dates would be Thursday 6 May to Saturday 8 May 2027. Always check ewob.eu before you travel.

Highlights & Attractions at European World of Bluegrass in Voorthuizen

  • Three-day European showcase with bands from across Europe and guests from the USA
  • Main stage at Ontmoetingscentrum De Eng with classic one-microphone bluegrass sets
  • Camping with round-the-clock jams at Oranjevereniging Voorthuizen
  • Workshops for banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle and dobro
  • Trade show with instruments, CDs and bluegrass merchandise
  • Street and pub gigs in Voorthuizen and neighbouring Barneveld
  • Audience and musicians’ awards for the best European bluegrass band

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027

A 2027 line-up has not been announced. In recent editions about 18 bands (six per day) played Thursday to Saturday on the main stage, typically from 14:00, with evening slots at 19:15, 20:30 and 21:45. Add camping jams, workshops and spontaneous sets around the village. The 2025 bill included Johanna's Mountain Boys, Rawhide, Brzdari, The Tennessee Studs, Handl, Grass Device and Sunny Side. EWOB is more convention than mass open-air festival: pickers meet, jam and vote on awards. Once 2027 is confirmed, the timetable and bands will appear on the official website.

Tickets & Admission for European World of Bluegrass Voorthuizen

2027 ticket prices and pre-sale have not been published because the edition is not confirmed. In previous years an adult day ticket was about 20 EUR and a weekend wristband about 50–70 EUR. Ages 12–16 often paid half price; under-12s were free. Wristbands were usually sold on site at De Eng and at the campsite, often without online pre-order. Check ewob.eu for updates. Camping was charged separately (recently around 40 EUR per adult for the weekend).

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Voorthuizen

  • Voorthuizen is in Gelderland (municipality of Barneveld), easy to reach via the A1. Take the train to Barneveld Centrum or Barneveld Noord, then bus or taxi to Voorthuizen.
  • May in the Netherlands can be cool, windy or wet. Pack layers, a rain jacket and sturdy shoes; bring extra warm clothing if you camp.
  • Festival camping at Oranjevereniging (Roelenengweg 25) should be planned as soon as it is offered again. Alternatives: B&Bs and holiday homes in Voorthuizen, Barneveld or on the Veluwe edge.
  • Bring an instrument: campsite jams are the heart of EWOB. Respect one-mic etiquette in the hall.
  • Recheck the website and Facebook page before you travel: 2027 is the intended return year, but finances and volunteers are not yet locked in.
