Event Details
Welcome to the Feira Medieval de Aldeia Viçosa
In the small village of Aldeia Viçosa, in the municipality of Guarda in north-eastern Portugal, history comes alive every year on the last weekend of April. The Feira Medieval de Aldeia Viçosa is one of the most charming and authentic medieval fairs in Portugal, transforming the entire village centre into a living stage for history, craftsmanship and traditional entertainment. The event is organised by the Associação de Eventos de Aldeia Viçosa (AEAV), with support from the Município da Guarda and Turismo Centro de Portugal.
History and Background
Aldeia Viçosa received its first municipal charter in 1238 from King D. Dinis, known as "The Poet" (O Trovador). This historic connection is at the heart of the fair. The theme "El Rei D. Dinis – O Trovador" runs through the entire programme, giving the event a special cultural depth. Since its first edition, the fair has grown into a regional highlight attracting visitors from across Portugal and from neighbouring Spanish regions.
