Welcome to the Feria de Abril 2027 in Seville

The Feria de Abril 2027 in Seville runs officially from Tuesday 13 April to Sunday 18 April 2027. The spectacular opening ceremony, known as the Alumbrado, takes place on the night of 12 April at midnight, when around 90,000 lanterns and 20,000 light bulbs on the monumental Portada gateway are switched on simultaneously, marking the start of Andalusia's most celebrated festival. The fairground, located in the Los Remedios neighbourhood beside the Guadalquivir river, covers approximately 450,000 square metres and attracts more than two million visitors each year.

History

The Feria de Abril dates back to 1846, when Seville launched an agricultural and livestock market. Over the decades it evolved into one of Europe's most colourful and lively popular festivals. Today the Feria holds the title of Fiesta de Interés Turístico Internacional (Festival of International Tourist Interest) and is a defining symbol of Andalusian culture.

Highlights

  • Alumbrado on 12 April at midnight: the simultaneous lighting of 90,000 lanterns on the Portada
  • More than 1,000 casetas lining the decorated streets of the Real de la Feria
  • Daily Paseo de Caballos: procession of over 1,000 horse-drawn carriages and elegantly dressed riders
  • Sevillanas and flamenco dancing in every caseta, day and night
  • Traditional bullfights at the Real Maestranza, one of Spain's oldest bullrings
  • Closing fireworks display over the Guadalquivir on the night of 18 April
  • Calle del Infierno: the fairground amusement park with rides and stalls

Program & Daily Schedule

Casetas open daily from noon and close at 6:00 AM (the final Sunday closes at midnight). Celebrations begin the evening before with the Noche del Pescaíto, a traditional meal of fried seafood shared among family and friends inside the casetas while waiting for the midnight Alumbrado. During the day, the Paseo de Caballos dominates the scene, with hundreds of riders in traditional dress and beautifully decorated carriages parading through the grounds. Miércoles de Feria (Wednesday 14 April 2027) is a local public holiday in Seville and traditionally one of the busiest days of the fair.

Casetas: the Heart of the Fair

Casetas are striped Andalusian-style tents equipped with a kitchen, tables, chairs and a small dance floor. Most casetas belong to private associations, families or businesses and are accessible by invitation only. However, a number of public Casetas de Distrito are open to all visitors daily from noon to 3:00 AM. Inside the casetas, visitors eat, drink, sing and dance. The signature drink of the Feria is the Rebujito, a refreshing mix of Manzanilla sherry and sparkling lemonade.

Flamenco & Sevillanas

Music and dance are at the very heart of the Feria de Abril. The Sevillana, a lively Andalusian folk dance related to flamenco, fills every street and caseta throughout the week. Women dress in vibrant Trajes de Flamenca (flamenco dresses) adorned with ruffles and polka dots, while men wear the elegant Traje Campero, the traditional Andalusian riding outfit. Visitors wanting to experience pure flamenco art can also attend one of the renowned tablao performances in the Old Town, such as those at the Palacio Andaluz or the Museo del Baile Flamenco.

Food & Drink

The Feria is a feast for all the senses. Typical dishes include gazpacho, Jamón Ibérico, fresh seafood, rabo de toro (oxtail stew), tortilla and churros. The drinks of choice are Fino and Manzanilla from the Sherry wine region, alongside the ever-present Rebujito. Snack stands along the Calle del Infierno serve churros and traditional sweets throughout the day.

Tickets & Admission

Admission to the Real de la Feria is entirely free of charge. Those wishing to attend the daily bullfights at the Real Maestranza need to purchase separate tickets, with prices varying by seat and day. Horse carriage rides on the grounds are individually priced. It is strongly recommended to book bullfight tickets and any special evening events well in advance.
