Welcome to the Velvet Cave Christmas Market 2026 in Valkenburg
The Velvet Cave Christmas Market 2026 transforms the historic passages of the Fluweelengrot beneath Valkenburg’s castle ruins into a magical underground Christmas world from 13 November to 30 December. With atmospheric lighting, centuries-old wall paintings, an 18th-century chapel and numerous stalls, it ranks among the most unique indoor Christmas experiences in the Netherlands.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The market runs from 13 November to 30 December 2026. Regular opening hours are Monday to Thursday 11:00–19:00, Friday 12:00–20:00, and Saturday & Sunday 10:00–19:00. On 24 December hours are shortened (11:00–17:00), the market is closed on 25 December, and on 30 December it closes at 18:00. The entrance closes 45 minutes before the end of opening hours. Visitors can shop, admire the historic cave art and immerse themselves in the special underground Christmas atmosphere.
Tickets & Admission for Velvet Cave Christmas Market Valkenburg
Admission is ticketed. Online tickets cost €9 for adults Monday–Thursday and €11 Friday–Sunday. Children aged 5–11 pay €5; children under 4 enter free. Groups of 20 or more receive a small discount. Advance online booking is strongly recommended, as time slots fill quickly especially at weekends. Combination tickets with other attractions such as Ongelofelijk Zand are available.

- Valkenburg is easily reached by train; the station is central and the Fluweelengrot on Daalhemerweg is only a short walk or bus ride away.
- Comfortable shoes and a light jacket are advisable – the cave maintains a constant, slightly cooler temperature.
- Book accommodation in Valkenburg early, as the whole town becomes “Christmas Town Valkenburg” and is very popular during the season.
- Purchase tickets online in advance and prefer a weekday visit to avoid larger crowds.
- Dogs are not permitted inside the cave; the market is wheelchair accessible.
