Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The Freiburg Christmas Market 2026 runs from 19 November to 23 December. Opening hours: weekdays 10:00–20:30, Sundays 11:30–19:30. Opening day (19 November) 14:00–20:30, closed on 22 November (Sunday of the Dead) and until 19:30 on 23 December. Additional stalls appear under the arcades of Kaiser-Joseph-Straße on Advent Sundays.
The market is distributed across the Old Town with different focuses at each location:
Rathausplatz Christmas Market 2026
The central and largest area of the market. Here you will find numerous craft stalls, mulled wine stands and the traditional Santa Claus visit on 6 December. The historic setting of the Old Town Hall and St. Martin’s Church creates a particularly festive atmosphere.
Colombipark / Colombischlössle Christmas Market 2026
Part of the market since 2021. The park impresses with romantic lighting and a popular photo point in front of the Colombischlössle. Culinary offerings dominate here, including raclette, crêpes, hot chestnuts and mulled wine.
Kartoffelmarkt Christmas Market 2026
Especially popular with families thanks to the children’s Christmas bakery, where visitors can bake their own cookies under supervision (approximately €4 per person). Many craft and gift stalls are also located here.
Franziskanerstraße, Turmstraße, Unterlindenplatz, Predigertor and Rotteckring 2026
These streets and squares connect the main areas and offer a mix of handicrafts, toys, winter fashion and additional food stations. On Advent Sundays the market expands further onto Kaiser-Joseph-Straße.
Daily highlights such as the Advent meditation “Lichtworte” in St. Martin’s Church (from 1 December at 17:30) complete the programme.
