Welcome to the Freiburg Wine Festival 2027
From 1 to 6 July 2027, Münsterplatz in Freiburg im Breisgau turns into a celebration of Baden wine for six days. Around the historic Freiburg Minster, regional wineries from the Breisgau, Kaiserstuhl, Markgräflerland and Tuniberg areas present their wines and sparkling wines, accompanied by food stalls, live music and a relaxed atmosphere in front of a historic backdrop. The festival draws around 250,000 visitors each year, making it one of the most popular wine festivals in southern Baden.

Program
The Freiburg Wine Festival traditionally opens on the first day at 6:00 PM in front of the Historic Merchants' Hall, when the Baden Wine Queen and the Wine Princesses are elected and presented to the public. Across eleven different areas around Münsterplatz, winemakers offer their wines for tasting while live bands and DJs perform on several stages. On the final day, the traditional student and apprentice day attracts a younger crowd with discounted offers.
Opening Hours and Admission
The festival is open Thursday and Sunday through Tuesday from 5:00 PM to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Admission is free; a deposit is charged for the wine glass, part of which goes toward the upkeep of the Minster. The regular Freiburg Minster market continues at its usual times during the wine festival.
Visitor Tips
- Münsterplatz gets especially crowded on opening day and weekend evenings; arriving early secures a good spot.
- Traveling by bus or train is recommended, since Münsterplatz is in the city center with limited parking.
- The deposit glass makes a nice souvenir; visitors who return it get the deposit back.
- Winery stands rotate their offerings and often feature a "favorite wine"; a walk through all eleven areas is worthwhile.
- Bring warm clothing for the evening, as July weather can be changeable.
