The Fressgass Festival – Frankfurt's Culinary Street Event
Every year in May, the Große Bockenheimer Straße in the heart of Frankfurt becomes one big outdoor feast. The Fressgass Festival invites visitors to stroll, eat and enjoy Frankfurt's most famous culinary street between Börsenstraße and Opernplatz. As one of the city's first street festivals of the year, it attracts over 250,000 visitors annually and has been organised by the Aktionsgemeinschaft Freßgass' e. V. since 1974.

Program
The festival is open daily from 12:00 noon until 11:00 PM. Along the roughly 280-metre-long street between Börsenstraße and Opernplatz, food and drink stalls offer specialities from across the region and beyond. Roaming musicians provide entertainment every day, while weekends feature a dedicated children's programme for families. Beyond the enjoyment, the event serves a social purpose: the proceeds from the festival fund the Fressgass Christmas lighting that illuminates the street throughout Advent.
Admission & Tickets
Entry to the Fressgass Festival is completely free of charge. It is an open street festival accessible to everyone. Only food and drinks purchased at the stalls are paid for separately.
Getting There
The Fressgass is centrally located in Frankfurt city centre and easy to reach by public transport. The nearest U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations are Hauptwache (U1, U2, U3, U6, U7, S1-S6, S8, S9) and Alte Oper (U6, U7). Travelling by car is not recommended due to very limited parking in the city centre during the festival.
Visitor Tips
- Arrive early on weekends as the street gets very busy by midday.
- Wear comfortable shoes as the entire festival takes place on the street.
- Bring sun protection on warm May days.
- Book Frankfurt accommodation well in advance.
- Carry some cash as not all stalls accept card payments.
