Welcome to Hogmanay 2026/2027 in Glasgow

On 31 December 2026 and into 1 January 2027, Glasgow marks Hogmanay – Scotland’s New Year’s Eve – across the whole city rather than with one big George Square street concert. The West End, Merchant City, city centre and East End fill with ticketed street parties, traditional ceilidhs, club nights, pub gigs and hotel balls. Many events are 18+; a few are family-friendly. Prices run from free (booking required) to three-figure euro dinner packages.

• Ashton Lane Hogmanay Street Party (West End): cobbled lane, live entertainment, bars and restaurants, pipers and fireworks above the street – around 3,000 guests, tickets about 54 euro (£45), from 19:00, 18+.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

Glasgow no longer runs a large free George Square concert. Hogmanay 2026/2027 is a city-wide spread of individual venues. Street and courtyard parties and club nights usually start between 19:00 and 21:00 and run to 01:00 or 02:00 (some later). Ceilidh and dinner packages often open around 19:00–19:30 with a reception. At midnight, pipers, countdowns, confetti or – at Ashton Lane – fireworks mark the bells; Auld Lang Syne is sung everywhere.

There is no single city pass. Each venue sells its own tickets. Guide prices (converted at about 1.19 euro per GBP, October 2026): Ashton Lane about 54 euro; Barrowland about 54–58 euro; Arta party-only from about 39 euro, packages higher; Grosvenor Hogmanay Bash about 83 euro (£70), ceilidh-ball packages higher; Hilton about 173 euro (£145) or overnight packages; Blackfriars free with booking; family carnival tickets were around 12 euro (£10) in recent years. Hotel dinner packages and black-tie events often sit between 100 and 175 euro per person. Book early – Ashton Lane and many ballroom and hotel nights sell out. • Getting there: Glasgow Central and Queen Street are the main stations; Subway (Hillhead for Ashton Lane, St Enoch/Buchanan Street for the centre). Glasgow Airport (GLA) links by bus and taxi. ScotRail often finishes early on Hogmanay and may not run on New Year’s Day – plan your return and stay in advance.
• Weather and dress: Late December is cold, wet and windy. For street parties wear layers, sturdy shoes and a rain jacket; for ceilidhs and hotel balls expect smart casual to black tie – always check the venue dress code.
• Where to stay: City centre, West End (near Ashton Lane) and Merchant City are in highest demand. Reserve hotels and apartments early; some venues offer packages with an overnight stay.
• Rules and timing: Scotland often allows an extended public outdoor drinking window on Hogmanay (check current city rules). Many parties are 18+ with ID checks. Note last-entry times (e.g. Blackfriars 23:30).
