Welcome to the 2026 Christmas Markets in and Around Greiz
From December 9 to 13, 2026, the Schlossgarten in Greiz turns into a beautifully lit Advent setting. Beyond the main market at the Schlossgarten, two smaller but distinctive Advent events in the surrounding area are also worth discovering, the Rittergut Kleingera estate and the village of Gommla.
Christmas Markets in and Around Greiz at a Glance
Greiz Christmas Market at the Schlossgarten: The Main Market Against a Classicist Backdrop
Set before the classicist ensemble of the Unteres Schloss palace, St Marien town church and the former grammar school, the largest illuminated Schwibbogen arch in eastern Thuringia rises above the Greiz Christmas Market from the palace terrace. Lovingly decorated stalls, a stage program with live music, dance and brass bands, plus a daily Santa Claus meet and greet, shape the five market days. 2026 dates: December 9 to 13, daily from 10am to 8pm, free admission.
Himmlische Weihnacht at Rittergut Kleingera: A Craft Market on a Historic Manor
At the Rittergut Kleingera estate near Elsterberg, festively decorated stables and the manor courtyard turn into a small but charming craft market with regional handicrafts, homemade stollen and mulled wine served in the manor house. 2026 date: Saturday, December 5, from 2pm, Am Gut 1, 07985 Elsterberg.
Pyramidenandrehen in Gommla: A Festive Evening at the Wendeschleife
In the Greiz village of Gommla, a giant Ore Mountains style Christmas pyramid over three meters tall turns at the festively decorated Wendeschleife turnaround. A small Christmas market, a stollen and cookie tasting with awards, and a visit from Santa Claus round out this close knit neighborhood celebration. 2026 date: Saturday, December 5, from 4:30pm, Wendeschleife Gommla, Sonnenstraße, 07973 Greiz.

Program and Schedule: What to Expect in Greiz
The main market at the Schlossgarten is open all five days from 10am to 8pm, with a varied stage program of music and dance plus a traditional parade on Sunday at 1pm. On the same Advent Saturday, December 5, it is well worth adding an afternoon visit to Rittergut Kleingera followed by the early evening pyramid turning in Gommla.
Tickets and Admission for the Greiz Christmas Markets
Admission is free at all three events. Only food, drinks and the handcrafted products on offer are paid for on site.
Visitor Tips: Travel and Surroundings in Greiz
- The Schlossgarten sits centrally at Burgplatz and is an easy walk from Greiz town center
- For Rittergut Kleingera and the Gommla pyramid turning, arriving by car is recommended since both are a short distance outside central Greiz
- Warm clothing is especially worthwhile for the evening in Gommla, as the pyramid turning takes place outdoors at the Wendeschleife
- To fit in several markets in one day, December 5 works best, combining the afternoon in Kleingera with the early evening in Gommla
- The Schlossgarten itself is also worth an evening visit, when the large Schwibbogen arch and the stalls glow in full festive light
