Green Sauce Festival Frankfurt 2027
Since 2008, Frankfurt has been asking the same delicious question every spring: who makes the best Grüne Soße? From 20 to 30 April 2027, the Roßmarkt in Frankfurt city centre once again becomes the epicentre of Hessian culinary culture. The Green Sauce Festival is one of Germany's most beloved street festivals, celebrating the iconic Frankfurt herb sauce in both its traditional and creative forms. Admission to the festival market is free.

Program
The festival is divided into two parts. The festival market opens from 20 April and runs daily around the festival tent at Roßmarkt, offering a wide range of green-sauce-inspired dishes: from the classic version with potatoes and hard-boiled eggs to green sauce sausage, tarte flambée, falafel, fish and international street food. Daily live music on the market stage rounds off the lunchtime experience.
The competition takes place in the evening shows from 24 to 30 April. Restaurants compete against each other over several evenings; each night, around 650 guests taste seven green sauce varieties blind and vote for their favourite. The daily winners then face off in the grand finale. The culinary contest is embedded in an entertainment programme featuring comedy, music and cabaret. Tickets for the evening shows are available through the official festival website.
About Frankfurt's Green Sauce
Frankfurter Grüne Soße (locally known as "Grie Soss") is a cold herb sauce made from exactly seven fresh herbs: borage, chervil, cress, parsley, burnet, sorrel and chives. It is Frankfurt's most iconic dish, holds EU protected geographical indication status and was reportedly a favourite of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. At this festival, the traditional sauce takes centre stage in both its classic form and a wealth of creative interpretations.
Tickets & Admission
Admission to the festival market is free of charge. Tickets are required for the evening shows. Each evening show ticket includes blind tastings of seven green sauce varieties, classic sides of potatoes and eggs, free drinks and a voting card for the jury. Tickets are available via the official festival website. Evening shows regularly sell out quickly; early booking is strongly recommended.
Visitor Tips
- Roßmarkt is centrally located and easily reached by U-Bahn, S-Bahn and tram (nearest stops: Hauptwache or Eschenheimer Tor).
- Lunchtime and weekends are busiest; visiting on a weekday morning offers a more relaxed experience.
- Book evening show tickets early as capacity is limited to around 650 guests per evening.
- April weather in Frankfurt can be changeable; a light jacket is recommended.
