Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Helsinki

  • Getting there: Kamppi metro is close to Kansalaistori and Maxine; Helsinki Central Station and trams cover the centre well. Expect closures around Kansalaistori on the evening (Baana, passages near Sanomatalo/Oodi) – plan on foot or public transport.
  • Weather and clothing: Late December in Helsinki is cold (often below 0 °C). For the outdoor celebration wear warm layers, hat and gloves; for clubs wear solid shoes and follow the dress code.
  • Where to stay: Central hotels and apartments (Kamppi, Kluuvi, Punavuori) sell out early for New Year’s. Book ahead, ideally within walking distance of Kansalaistori or the clubs.
  • Safety: No personal fireworks in the city centre event area. Large crowds – agree meeting points and charge phones. Bring ID for club age limits (usually 18+).
  • Planning: Final city programme in December 2026; Maxine and On The Rocks tickets already on sale. To do both: early at Kansalaistori, after midnight into a club – allow time for queues and walks.
