Miles Davis Centenary: The Heart of This Edition

The 100th birthday of Miles Davis (born 26 May 1926) gives the 45th edition its central theme. On 4 July, Marcus Miller reunites the original members of Miles Davis's 1981 band for the European exclusive "We Want Miles!" tour: Bill Evans, Mike Stern and Mino Cinelu perform together for the first time in decades. In parallel, the Musée d'Histoire de Vienne presents the exhibition "Miles Davis, 100 ans d'influence" from 25 June to 11 July (daily 2 PM to 7 PM, free entry).

Getting There and Visitor Tips

  • By train: Vienne is 30 km south of Lyon. The TER from Lyon Part-Dieu takes 20 to 25 minutes. Festival visitors can use the Train + Concert offer for a return journey from Lyon for just €2.
  • Parking: Free park-and-ride lots at the city entrances; driving into the centre is restricted during the festival.
  • Arrive early: Gates open at 6:30 PM; those wanting the best stone-tier seats should aim to be inside by 7:30 PM.
  • Dress appropriately: July evenings can turn cool. A light jacket and a cushion for the stone steps are strongly recommended.
  • Accommodation: Vienne itself is small and fills up fast. Lyon offers far more choice and is easily reached by TER after each concert.
  • Food and drink: The Cybèle food court serves regional cuisine, Côtes du Rhône wines, locally brewed beers and artisan ice cream from the Rhône Valley, all within a zero-waste approach.
