Welcome to the Christmas Town Valkenburg 2026/2027 in Valkenburg
From 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 the entire town of Valkenburg transforms into Christmas Town Valkenburg – the most famous Christmas destination in the Netherlands. Not only the renowned marl caves but the whole historic centre sparkles with lights, markets and the spectacular Landal Christmas Parade.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
Christmas Town Valkenburg runs from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. The underground markets in the caves are generally open until the end of December, while many above-ground activities and MergelRijk continue into early January. The Landal Christmas Parade passes through the historic centre several times a week (usually Wednesdays and Saturdays). The whole town is festively illuminated, with daily programmes of music, street theatre and family attractions. Advance planning is essential as many activities require timed tickets.
Tickets & Admission for Christmas Town Valkenburg Valkenburg
Access to the town and most outdoor areas is free. Tickets are required for the cave markets (Municipal Cave and Velvet Cave) as well as attractions such as MergelRijk and Winter Wonderland. Prices typically range from approximately €9 to €15 per adult (depending on day and attraction), with reduced rates for children. Tickets must be booked online in advance via the official ticket shop and are often timed. Combination tickets are available.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Valkenburg
- Travel by public transport if possible: Valkenburg station is within walking distance of the centre and caves; special Arriva tickets from South Limburg offer good value.
- Bring warm clothing and sturdy shoes – the caves maintain a constant 12 °C and the town lies in hilly terrain.
- Book accommodation early as the season is very popular; hotels and holiday apartments in and around Valkenburg are ideal.
- Visit on weekdays to avoid crowds; weekends are particularly busy.
- Reserve parking in advance or use Park & Go options; space in the centre is limited.
Christmas Market Municipal Cave 2026
In the atmospheric illuminated marl corridors of the Municipal Cave you will find Europe’s largest underground Christmas market. Numerous stalls, lights and festive decorations create a unique atmosphere. Generally open from 13 November to 30 December 2026.
Christmas Market Velvet Cave 2026
Beneath the castle ruins the passages of the Velvet Cave wind through yellow marlstone. The Christmas market here offers cosy stalls, lights and a particularly intimate atmosphere. Also open until the end of December 2026.
Landal Christmas Parade 2026
The fairytale light parade with richly decorated floats and dancers moves several times a week through the historic streets of Valkenburg and is one of the highlights of Christmas Town.
