Klassik im Dom: Concerts in the Heart of Vienna
Unlike, for example, Classic Open Air Berlin, Klassik im Dom is not a single week outdoor festival but a year round concert series held inside Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral. In the cathedral's striking Gothic setting and with its remarkable acoustics, orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists from around the world perform regularly. Each concert is scheduled and booked individually, so there is no fixed festival week, only individual dates spread across the year.

Program
The concert program at the cathedral changes continuously, with new dates published throughout the year. Fixed programming for autumn and winter 2026 includes Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" (several evenings through 30 December), Brahms' "Requiem" (through the end of October), a Mozart Requiem on 17 October and concerts around Reformation Day. December is the festive high point of the season: Advent concerts run from 27 November to 23 December, alongside individual dates such as the traditional midnight Mozart Requiem on 4 December (at Mozart's hour of death), a Sydney Youth Orchestra concert on 4 December and the Vienna Advent concert with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra on 10 December. Most evening concerts start between 8:00 and 8:30 PM.
Tickets
Tickets for individual concerts are sold through official outlets such as Vienna Concerts, Classictic and Ticket Gretchen. Prices vary widely by program and seating category: simple string ensemble concerts start at around 10 to 20 euros, while larger, more elaborate productions can cost 120 to over 200 euros. Since every date is booked separately, it is worth checking the current schedule before planning a trip.
Visitor Tips
- Before booking, check exactly which concert and which date is taking place, since this is a series of individual dates rather than a continuous festival.
- Bring appropriate clothing; the cathedral is a sacred building and visitors are expected to dress respectfully.
- Choose category I or II seating if an unobstructed view of the stage matters to you.
- St. Stephen's Cathedral sits directly above Stephansplatz U Bahn station (U1, U3), making it very easy to reach.
- Book popular dates such as the December Mozart Requiem early, as these sell out quickly.
