Program

The event area along the Rhine opens at 3:00 PM; music and entertainment along the riverbanks build the atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Visitors should arrive by 7:00 PM at the latest, as the riverside promenades fill up quickly as the evening approaches. The grand music synchronized fireworks finale starts around 11:00 PM, traditionally designed by chief pyrotechnician Georg Alef and his team; the exact start time may shift by a few minutes depending on the program.

Tickets

Access to the riverbanks is generally free of charge. For a guaranteed view without crowds, visitors can book grandstand seats at the Bastei riverside or a spot on one of the Köln Düsseldorfer event ships; prices range from around 90 to over 250 euros depending on the category and provider, with grandstand tickets starting at about 120 euros. Since the best spots and ships tend to sell out early, booking several months in advance is recommended.

Visitor Tips

  • Use public transport (KVB, Deutsche Bahn), as roads around the event get crowded and some areas are closed.
  • Arrive early and pick a fixed spot along the riverbank, ideally by 7:00 PM.
  • Bring weatherproof clothing and enough food and drinks, as riverside spots fill up quickly.
  • Those without a spot on site can watch the fireworks live on WDR television.
  • Book ship or grandstand tickets early, as many offers sell out weeks in advance.
