Welcome to the Leonhardi Procession Bad Tölz 2026
On Friday, 6 November 2026, Bad Tölz celebrates one of Bavaria's most impressive horse pilgrimages: the Tölzer Leonhardifahrt. Documented since 1772 and recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2017, over 70 festively decorated four horse carriages and several hundred horses move through the historic Marktstraße up to the Kalvarienberg in honor of Saint Leonhard of Limoges, the patron saint of horses and livestock.

Program
As the bells of all Tölz churches ring out, the procession sets off at 9:00 AM from the Kurviertel on the left bank of the Isar. The parade moves in a precisely fixed order through Marktstraße up to the Kalvarienberg, where a festive mass is held. The procession then circles the Leonhardi Chapel twice while horses and pilgrims receive a blessing. The return route leads back to Marktstraße, with the closing blessing taking place around 1:00 PM at the Mühlfeldkirche. Afterward, the town celebrates together with visitors.
Tickets
The Leonhardi procession is a public pilgrimage and free to watch along the route. Organized day trips and bus tours with reserved viewing spots are offered by various travel companies, typically starting at around 60 euros per person.

- Arrive early and find a spot along Marktstraße in good time, as tens of thousands of spectators attend.
- Traveling by bus or train is recommended due to limited parking.
- Bring warm clothing, as the event takes place outdoors in November regardless of weather.
