74th Ljubljana Festival 2026 – World-Class Arts in the Heart of Slovenia
The 74th Ljubljana Festival 2026 takes place from 21 June to 8 September 2026, once again transforming the Slovenian capital into one of Europe's most prestigious cultural stages. Over more than two and a half months, internationally renowned orchestras, opera singers, ballet companies and theatre ensembles perform at historic venues throughout the city. Headline acts include the London Symphony Orchestra under Antonio Pappano, the Berliner Symphoniker with pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, and the Staatskapelle Dresden under Daniele Gatti, representing a programme of the highest artistic standard.
What is the Ljubljana Festival?
Founded in 1952, the Ljubljana Festival is one of the oldest and most distinguished cultural festivals in south-east Europe. Since 1977 it has been a member of the European Festivals Association (EFA), a network of around 200 festivals from more than 45 countries. The 2025 edition comprised 132 events attended by approximately 64,000 visitors from nearly 60 countries. The programme spans symphony and chamber music concerts, opera, ballet, theatre, an International Fine Arts Colony and masterclasses for emerging musicians.
Venues
The heart of the festival is the Križanke Summer Theatre, an open-air venue set within a medieval monastery complex redesigned in the 1950s by architect Jože Plečnik. Additional venues include the Gallus Hall at Cankarjev dom, the Križevniška Church, the Slovenian Philharmonic and the Union Hall. The festival traditionally opens on Kongresni trg, one of Ljubljana's main central squares.
