Program
The festival offers much more than festive lighting; it is a comprehensive cultural experience. As soon as dusk falls (around 5:00 PM), the entire city center lights up. The official route guides visitors through the historic center, along Via dei Mercanti, to Piazza della Libertà and the Villa Comunale (city park), which often transforms into an "Enchanted Garden". The light festival is accompanied by jazz concerts, art exhibitions, and Christmas theater performances that continue well into late January.
Tickets
Viewing the light installations of "Luci d'Artista" is a public city-wide event and therefore completely free of charge. The streets and squares are open to everyone. Tickets are only required for specific side events, special indoor exhibitions, the Ferris wheel, or official guided tours.
Visitor Tips
- Plan Your Travel: Salerno gets incredibly crowded, especially on weekends and public holidays. Arriving by train is highly recommended as the main station is very central. Alternatively, use the Park & Ride shuttle services.
- Start Your Tour: Begin your walk at dusk in the Villa Comunale and make your way through the historic center for the best experience.
- Enjoy Local Food: Don't miss out on Campanian street food like "Cuoppo" (fried seafood in a paper cone) at the stalls along the promenade.
- Dress Smartly: Although southern Italian winters are generally mild, the sea breeze can make evenings quite chilly.
- Book Early: Accommodation in Salerno and the nearby Amalfi Coast sells out extremely quickly during the festival months.
